London's Borough Market and Bermondsey Crowd on Carbon Footprint and Climate Change
3Ceco.com UK - When it comes to carbon dioxide is it up do individual consumers to make small changes to their everyday lives to reduce their impact on climate change, or is it solely up to governments and industrial polluters to curb, capture, and store their carbon?
In the UK, the average person generates 11 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions per year, not as good as France's 9 tonnes per person but certainly a good head start ahead of Canada's average of 23 tonnes of CO2 and America's leading 24 tonnes per person.
So who's job is it to cut carbon?
Should we leave it up to dirty industries like aviation, coal-fired electricity plants, and so on or should individuals look at small daily steps to curb their carbon output. Well, the airline industry in the accounts for about 6% of total UK CO2 emissions (on par with the computer industry), while households stand at a national average of 15% and general road transportation at 20% of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions per year. From CO2 Reductions to Minus
Reductions are reductions as each gov't points out...but after two or three decades shouldn't we move from trying to slow CO2 to minus-ing the carbon footprint...or, move beyond neutral.
